Each summer, students have opportunities to join the UBRP community by participating in educational field trips, social events, and community service activities, including the annual UBRP Ethics Retreat, held at Biosphere 2, pictured here.
Get to know your fellow scholars better as we explore topics in scientific, professional, and community ethics and how to make decisions for the greater good at the 2026 UBRP Ethics Retreat! The retreat will take place at Biosphere 2 from 8:00am on Monday, June 8 through 5:00pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, including an overnight stay. UBRP will cover all costs for transportation to and from Biosphere 2, activities (including a behind-the scenes tour of Biosphere 2!), lodging, and all meals, and all participants will receive UA's NIH Responsible Conduct of Research certification.
We will have amazing guest speakers who will give interactive presentations on topics including:
- Ethical Implications in Precision Health Research: Experiences with the All of Us Research Program
- Understanding Animal Models in Biomedical Research: Why and When Do We Need Them
- Relationality and Reciprocity in Research with Native Nations
- Assessment and Action in Research Ethics
Since attendance at the UBRP Ethics Retreat is required for new EHS-RISE and NACP students, these students will be able to report time for pay during this event. For all other students, participation in this retreat is entirely voluntary; students cannot count it as time worked for pay, however, there will be no cost to students to participate.
If you are interested in attending, please fill out the UBRP Ethics Retreat Application by the end of the day on Sunday, May 24. Students will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be notified by Wednesday, May 27 regarding the status of their application.
