36th Annual UBRP Conference
The 36th Annual Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) Conference took place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 on the main campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson. UBRP/BRAVO! alumnus, Dr. Hardeep Phull, MD, Director of the Oncology and Infusion program at Palomar Health in San Diego and a Board Member of the Palomar Health Foundation, gave the keynote talk entitled "The Journey of Science, Medicine, and Life: Get Out of Your Own Way!" In total, 135 undergraduates presented research posters of their work to the University of Arizona community, family and friends, and the general public. UBRP mentors Mary Alt, Alyssa Ryan, and Sahana Srivastha were recognized with 2024-25 Outstanding UBRP Mentor Awards.

Dr. Phull's video segment of his Keynote Lecture captured a few "full-circle-moments" from his undergraduate days in the UBRP/BRAVO! program at the University of Arizona. During this talk, he spoke to the importance of taking risks and seeking opportunities on the "winding path" of life to an audience of nearly 400 undergraduate science students and their guests, challenging them to "Get Out Of Your Own Way" on the Journey of Science and Life. Though we were not able to capture the second half of the lecture, this segment encompasses the first two lessons through his experience in Poland as a BRAVO! alum:
- LESSON #1: Get Going and Start Somewhere
- LESSON #2: Speak the World’s Universal Language
- LESSON #3: Transcend Artificial Boundaries
- LESSON #4: Embrace Discomfort and Failure, the Substances of Reinvention
- LESSON #5: Life is a Brief Reality, not an Expectation
Thank you to all who attended and made this event a success!
