The longstanding becomes available once again to support UArizona undergraduates in international research experiences

From 1992 to 2015, the original University of Arizona Biomedical Research Abroad: Vistas Open! (BRAVO!) program supported 247 UArizona undergraduates in significant research experiences in foreign countries, where they forged relationships in the spirit of international scientific and cross-cultural collaboration.  Under the direction of Carol Bender, BRAVO! was a unique opportunity for UArizona undergraduates to be immersed in the international scientific community.  For 23 years, the program was supported by grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), but BRAVO! ceased in 2015 when the foci of these agencies’ funding priorities shifted.

But thanks to the commitment of generous private donors, BRAVO!, renamed as the Biology Research Abroad: Vistas Open! Program, has returned!  We are excited to send out an initial cohort of four UArizona undergraduates on international research experiences via BRAVO! beginning in Summer 2023.

Our aim is to make BRAVO! available to future cohorts through private donations.  We have started a BRAVO! crowdfund with the specific goal of raising $8,000 by January 31, 2023, to fund an additional student to participate in the program for Summer 2024, and are just over the halfway mark to our goal! If you would like to contribute, please visit our crowdfund site at https://crowdfund.arizona.edu/BRAVO!.

Thank you for your support.  We look forward to sharing with you the adventures of a new generation of BRAVO! participants!
