UBRP Field Trip to Kitt Peak and the Tohono O’odham Nation Cultural Center
July 14, 2018 @ 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
UBRP Field Trip to Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Tohono O’odham Cultural Center & Museum (8:00am – 5:00pm). Kitt Peak is home to one of the world’s largest collections of research telescopes. We will take a tour of the world’s largest solar telescope, discover the astronomical research being conducted at Kitt Peak, and learn about the history behind how the observatory came to be built within the lands of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Afterwards, we will head to the Tohono O’odham Nation Cultural Center & Museum to learn about “himdag,” the O’odham way of life. Students should bring a sack lunch, your ID (in case it’s needed at the Border Patrol checkpoints… if you’re not a U.S. citizen, please bring your passport), and a hat and sunglasses. Transportation to and from campus and admission to both sites will be covered for UBRPers. Sign up by Sunday, July 1 at https://goo.gl/forms/XHvUmHXBhrSKKwxs1.
