Carol Bender came to the University of Arizona in 1988 and assumed her present position as Director of the Undergraduate Biology Research Program in 1989. She has watched UBRP grow from its promising beginning of 19 students and 13 faculty members in 1988 to its 2017 size of 92 students and over 240 faculty members!  In addition to program planning, proposal development, and project administration, Carol enjoys travel and has visited many countries around the world. She participated in the 1997 Fulbright-sponsored International Education Administrators Program in Japan and the 2011 Fullbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar in India.  In 2015, she was made a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
