MARC: Minority Access to Research Careers
The MARC program provides unique research, mentoring, financial and academic opportunities for underrepresented minority students who have interest and potential to pursue careers in biomedical research.
Additional Opportunities include:
- training and financial support for the last two years of enrollment at the University of Arizona
- financial benefits including: tuition and fees support; health insurance; monthly stipend
- funding to attend national scientific meetings and to seek a summer research experience outside the UA
- outstanding faculty from Colleges of Science, Medicine, Agriculture & Life Sciences, and Social & Behavioral Sciences with active and well-funded research programs to provide research guidance and intensive mentoring to participants
- overall mentoring provided by Professor Marc Tischler, Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics
- assistance with preparation for the Graduate Record Exam, and applying to graduate schools and for graduate fellowships by Associate Dean Maria Teresa Velez, Graduate College
- a seminar series for trainees to meet outstanding minority scientists from other institutions and interact amongst themselves and with other UA faculty mentors
The Biology Project
The Biology Project, is an interactive online resource for learning biology developed at The University of Arizona. The Biology Project is fun, richly illustrated, and tested on 1000s of students. It has been designed for biology students at the college level, but is useful for high school students, medical students, physicians, science writers, and all types of interested people.
The Biology Learning Center (BLC)
The BLC Lab offers students and faculty in the life sciences a conveniently located site incorporating state of the art computing and presentation technology, including high speed access to the Internet, web-based teaching materials and other software materials useful to interactive learning.
Science Connection
The goal of Science Connection is to help undergraduates share their enthusiasm for science with children and to make the undergraduates aware of current issues in science education. The main thrust of the program is to help undergraduates develop and present hands-on science activities in K-12 classrooms.
