"I was accepted by UCSF's biomedical sciences doctoral program and will be joining them in the fall," writes Lea Gemmel '06. As a UBRPer, Lea worked in Dr. Willliam Birky's lab, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Dr. Danny Brower's lab, Molecular & Cellular Biology.  "My plan is to work with Dr. Joe DeRisi, another "virus hunter" known for pioneering work with microarrays and novel virus identification.  In the meantime, I am finishing up my MS in EEB."  E-mail: lgemmel@ email.arizona.edu

Brian Gregory '00, who received his PhD Microbiology from Harvard in 2005, has been "appointed Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania."  He was previously a "Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Salk Institute." He is "in the process of building my (his) own laboratory." Brian worked with Dr. Ken Feldmann, Plant Sciences and Dr. Frans Tax, MCB while in UBRP.  E-mail: bdgregor@sas.upenn.edu

Carol Bender saw one of our lost alums, Kathryn Giroux '05 in the Tucson International Airport.  Kathryn is a security screener at the airport and enrolled in the long distance, on-line master's program in teaching from NAU.  She was a UBRPer with Dr. Julio Betancourt and research specialist, Travis Bean on the buffelgrass eradication program on Tumamoc Hill.
