Internships at Ventana Medical Systems: The University of Arizona BIO5 Institute announces the 2009 summer industry internships at Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. in Oro Valley, AZ. Ventana Medical is the world's leading supplier of automated diagnostic systems to the anatomical pathology market.  Summer Internships:  (1) Twelve weeks at 20 hours/week (2) Interns receive a stipend of $5000 through their UA Bursar's Account  (3) Interns selected must be in continuing student status (returning for Fall 2009 semester).  Graduate students and undergraduates who have advanced research training (2+ years) will be considered based on the basic requirements listed in each project description. All candidates must demonstrate health, safety and environmental consciousness, be able to follow all health, safety and environmental regulations, standards and internal requirements. Ability to work well in a team environment and accept direction is essential. Interested students who meet the requirements must submit the following materials by March 6th, 2009:  (1) Cover Letter indicating project of interest in and how you meet the listed requirements (2) Copy of CV  (3) Letter of recommendation from primary faculty advisor (or lab PI for undergraduates) demonstrating that the advisor is supportive of the internship experience  (4) An additional letter of recommendation from one other member of the advisory committee (graduate students) or person familiar with the applicant's research skills (undergraduates).  Students wishing to apply for more than one project must submit separate applications for each.  Please send all application materials as a single packet to:  Kevin Hall, Director, Research Training & Career Development BIO5 Institute, PO Box 210240 1657 E Helen St, Tucson, AZ, 85721 or contact us with questions at jkh@email.arizona.edu.

Paid Internship in Quebec's Parliament:  The International Association of Quebec Studies is offering a professional internship within the Research Division of the Quebec Legislative Assembly. The internship is remunerated and full-time for the period of approximately 4 months from August 31, 2009 to December 11, 2009.  This opportunity is directed towards international students who must complete an internship as part of their program of studies and who would like to use the knowledge and abilities they have gained through their studies in a practical setting. This internship will permit international students to develop a better understanding of Quebec, its parliamentary institutions and democratic practices. Students of Economics, Political Science, History and Public Administration are encouraged to apply.  The deadline for applications is March 20, 2009. The Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair needs judges, and you are the perfect candidate!  The Fair is the week of spring break, and judging is that Tuesday, the March 17.  If
you volunteer to judge you get a free breakfast and lunch, along with some SARSEF souvenirs.  SARSEF is a great way to encourage kids to be excited about science, and looking at their projects is always fun.
