Alumni News

"Great to hear from the UBRP gang," writes Hillary Tuttle '96.  "I am doing a neonatology fellowship at University of Colorado.  I am still in the research mix.  I recently presented my research on erythropoietin treatment of hyperoxia neonatal mice at a meeting in Banff, Canada."  Hillary received her MD, from Oregon Health and Science University.  As a UBRPer, Hillary worked in Dr. Ken Feldman's lab, Plant Sciences.  E-mail: tuttleh@comcast.net

Sonia Rodriguez '92, UBRPer with Dr. Marc Tischler, Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, has just moved her shop and opened under a new name, Alchemista (science for your senses).  Alcemista is a full-service aromatherapy shop offering essential oils, incense and a wide variety of natural personal care products.  The shop is located on 1250 S. 4th Ave. #150, Tucson.

"I am in a small town in rural Peru working as a Community Health Volunteer in the Peace Corps," writes Amanda Wendt '04.  "I am almost done with my service and will be returning to the states in December 2008.  I am starting the application process to study epidemiology starting in the fall of 2009."  As a UBRPer, Amanda worked with Dr. Darrel Goll, Nutritional Sciences.  E-mail: awendt06@gmail.com

We were saddened by the news that long-time UBRP mentor Dr. Darrel Goll, Professor of Nutrition and Food Sciences, died suddenly in July of a massive heart attack.  Over a long and productive career, Dr. Goll did pioneering work on protein biochemistry, characterizing the calpain system and examining its impact on muscle, heart disease, Alzheimer's Disease, muscular dystrophy, and other disorders.  We are grateful to Dr. Goll for his many contributions and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
