Introducing...
...faculty sponsor, Dr. Janis Burt, Professor, Physiology. Dr.
Burt's research interests: Gap junctions provide the
only pathway for direct intercellular signaling and also
participate in intracellular signaling cascades activated
by a vast array of signaling molecules. Their normal function
is essential for coordinated function of the heart and blood
vessels as well as serving a central role in growth control
and response to injury. The Burt Lab studies the mechanistic
basis for these functions of gap junctions using molecular,
cellular, and systems level approaches.
