The 2008 Amazon-PIRE Summer Field Course is
an intensive graduate field course in the Amazon of Brazil
and will
take place July 12-24, 2008. Amazon-PIRE is an international
partnership between scientists in the US and in Brazil.
This program offers opportunities for undergraduate and
graduate students to participate in international and
interdisciplinary research and education, at both US
and partner Brazilian institutions. Opportunities include
NSF-sponsored graduate fellowships for research on interactions
between climate and vegetation in the Amazon of Brazil,
summer stipends for undergraduate research projects,
a field course in methods for tropical forest research,
and coursework in Portuguese language and Brazilian culture.
Eligible Graduates/Undergraduate Majors: ecology
and evolutionary biology, environmental science, climate
change, ecology, forestry, geochemistry, geosciences,
plant sciences, hydrology, soil and water science, environmental
science, and students interested in interdisciplinary
research dealing with climate change. The application
