REU program at the University of South Florida provides
a stimulating and interactive 9-week summer research
experience for undergraduates. The site will focus on
the social aspects of hurricanes - i.e., how individuals,
communities and institutions prepare for, experience
and recover from hurricanes. Based on a successful pilot
program last summer, our REU offers students a substantive
mentored research experience, along with research methods
training, ethics training, and American Red Cross Certification
in disaster response and management skills. This interdisciplinary
program fully engages students in collaborative exploration
at a Research I institution with distinguished faculty
mentors drawn from disciplines such as Anthropology,
Sociology, Education, Geography, Public Health, Humanities,
and Social Work. Application Deadline: April 6, 2007.
