Opportunities and Choices

The family, friends and associates at University of Arizona and Tucson in memory of Gloria Feigenbaum, an active faculty member and champion for women's rights during her career at the University of Arizona, created Gloria Feigenbaum Scholarship for Women Returning to School. ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship was created to provide support for women who have previously attended a post-secondary educational institution, but have had to interrupt their education for two or more years. Candidates must apply and be accepted at the University of Arizona as either full- or part-time students and demonstrate FASFA financial need. The scholarship is renewable through re-application. APPLICATION PROCESS: Candidates must submit an application either by mail, or email, to the appropriate address below. For an application form, please email Ginny Healy at ghealy@email.arizona.edu and put "Gloria Feigenbaum Scholarship" in the subject line. Deadline for submission is April 16, 2007. The Scholarship Selection Committee will notify the awardee by May 19, 2007. The following must be attached to a completed application: Two letters of recommendation; A one-page essay describing the circumstances that led to leaving college and the decision to return to school, as well as future career goals. REU program at the University of South Florida provides a stimulating and interactive 9-week summer research experience for undergraduates. The site will focus on the social aspects of hurricanes - i.e., how individuals, communities and institutions prepare for, experience and recover from hurricanes. Based on a successful pilot program last summer, our REU offers students a substantive mentored research experience, along with research methods training, ethics training, and American Red Cross Certification in disaster response and management skills. This interdisciplinary program fully engages students in collaborative exploration at a Research I institution with distinguished faculty mentors drawn from disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Geography, Public Health, Humanities, and Social Work. The US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (ARS)-Pacific West Area is offering a Summer Intern Program targeted to college undergraduates who are pursuing degrees in math and science.
