Dr Yi Zhang, Professor of Biotechnology
at Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, will visit campus
from March 25 - 30 to interact with students and faculty.
Wuhan University is a site to which we have sent BRAVO!
students and to which we would like to send future BRAVO!
students. We are looking for student volunteers to host
Dr. Zhnag by taking her to lunch or dinner and by showing
her some of Tucson.
Dr. Zhang received her PhD in Molecular Genetics and
Microbiology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey in 2000 and returned to China to join the
faculty of Wuhan University. Her research interests include
viral RNA folding and regulation mechanisms and biology
of alterative splicing, identification of functional
RNAs residing in nuclear mRNA introns, and Group I ribozyme
applications (therapeutics and drug design). The National
Basic Research Program of China funds her work on the
regulation of pre-mRNA alternative splicing. On a personal
note, Dr. Zhang is married to a scientist and has three
children (in China this is highly unusual). This is an
excellent opportunity to interact with a well-respected,
young scientist, who is interested in using active learning
techniques in her classroom, and who would like to continue
to host BRAVO! students in her lab. Please contact
Carol (621-9348) if you are interested in helping with Dr.
Zhang's visit.
