The Graduate Program in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry (MCB) at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island is an interdisciplinary program, with faculty members drawn from the areas of biochemistry, molecular, cell and developmental biology; neurobiology; pathology; pharmacology; chemistry; and medicine. The research interests of the faculty encompass a broad range of investigations at the molecular and cellular levels, using a variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell types. 2007 DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program Announcement: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announces program guidelines for the 2007 competition cycle of the DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program. Complete information is available online at http://www.orau.gov/dhsed/. The last competition cycle provided financial support for approximately 100 Scholars and Fellows. All applicants are expected to apply using the online application. The deadline for submitting an application is January 23, 2007, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The American Society for Engineering Education is pleased to announce the opening of the 2007 application for the Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation Defense Scholarship for Service Program (SMART). The SMART Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support the education and recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. This program is used to recruit and to retain civilian scientists and engineers to work in DoD agencies and laboratories. Full tuition, education fees, book allowance, stipends, paid internships, and career opportunities are provided for students awarded this scholarship. The application closes on February 5, 2007. SMART Scholarships are offered to undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for training and education in STEM fields. Students are also provided opportunities to continue their research in civil service roles following graduation. Through SMART, we are proud to offer our research leaders of tomorrow not only an education, but also a career. The SMART Scholarship for Service Program is open only to citizens and nationals of the United States. Persons who hold permanent resident status are not eligible. Proof of citizenship will be required. Students must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible. Applicants for undergraduate awards must be already enrolled in a U.S. college or university. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is accepting applications for the Leonard Rieser Fellowship in Science, Technology, and Global Security for the 2007-2008 academic year. The Rieser is intended to help students pursue projects that explore issues at the intersection of science, global security and public policy. Applications are due March 15, 2007. Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research Scholars Program at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY (May 29 - August 3, 2007). This program provides support for high-achieving non-Stony Brook University juniors and seniors to engage in biological sciences research at Stony Brook. Applicants must: plan to be enrolled as a junior or senior in the Fall of 2007, plan to pursue a Ph.D. in a biological sciences discipline, have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.3. Awardees will receive a $3000 stipend, room and board, $500 toward travel expenses plus $500 for supplies for the laboratory in which they do their research. Applications include a one-page essay of the student's career goals, two letters of recommendation from faculty, and all transcripts. The deadline for applications is January 15.
