Research in Florence, Italy, Anyone?

Dr. Giancarlo Pepeu, BRAVO! foreign faculty sponsor, writes wondering, "How is the BRAVO! Program? Are there any new BRAVO! students interested in doing research at the University of Florence, Florence, Italy. I would like to invite them to Florence. In fact, I am attaching two pictures of Florence and Tuscany to entice them."

You will find Dr. Pepeu in his office in the Department of Pharmacology three days per week and involved in a couple of scientific projects. A few lectures and much work with Florence University Press completes the picture. In July, he was in Beijing, China for a week attending the World Congress in Pharmacology. His last visit to China was in 2000. Dr. Pepeu found "the changes that have occurred in six years staggering. Europe and Italy in particular appear to be totally crystallized, in comparison." He also attended the 10th International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease in Madrid, Spain, where he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alzheimer Association.

If you are interested in participating in BRAVO! and possibly going to Florence to work with Dr. Pepeu, please contact Carol Bender. If you had not already guessed, Dr. Pepeu's research interest is Alzheimer's Disease. David Frye '95, Brianna Paul '97, Regina Benton Bower '00, Oscar Serrano '01, Carla Escobar '01, Leah Tatum '04, and Brynne Crowell '06 have worked with Dr. Pepeu.
