Introducing...
...faculty sponsor, Dr. Jaswinder Ghuman, Associate
Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics. Dr. Ghuman's research interests
include studying psychopharmacological and psychosocial interventions
and social interaction problems in preschool children with
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autistic disorder
and other psychiatric and developmental disorders. She is
conducting an NIH funded study regarding safety and efficacy
of medication to treat symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsiveness
and distractibility in 3 to 6 year old children with autism,
Asperger's disorder or pervasive developmental disorder.

Kudos
We had an exceptionally strong showing at the Regional Meeting
of the American Chemical Society -- three of the four awards
given to undergraduates went to UBRP students.
James Cherwa won the best undergraduate oral presentation
award for his talk titled: "Genetic and biochemical
analysis of the phiX174 external scaffolding protein." (James
is a UBRPer in Dr. Bentley Fane's lab, Veterinary
Science).
Patrick Vinck won the best undergraduate poster award for
his poster titled: "Protein S-Nitrosation in a fibrosarcoma
cell line." Patrick is a UBRPer in Dr.
William Montfort, Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics.
Thomas Gaj won the 3rd best undergraduate poster award for
his poster titled: "Highly selective cyclic-hexapeptide
ligands for NeutrAvidin and avidin identified by phage display." Thomas
is a UBRPer in Dr. Indraneel Ghosh's lab, Chemistry.
This is especially satisfying because the meeting had the
best ever attendance for the regional ACS meeting this year.
Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, has named a Laureate
in the Association's annual program to recognize gifted engineering
students who have excelled in areas beyond their technical
majors. The 2006 Tau Beta Pi Laureate is Devin T.
Wiley,
a chemical engineering student, who is a UBRPer in Dr.
John Szivek's Surgery/Orthopedic Research Lab. In addition to
his outstanding scholastic accomplishments, Wiley is lauded
for excellence in the arts as an exceptional pianist and
composer. He joins 58 other remarkable Tau Bates who have
been named Laureates since 1982. |
