The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) funding to provide financial assistance to students who are participating in the Chinese language programs offered by the CIEE Study Centers at Peking University (Beijing), East China Normal University (Shanghai), Nanjing University, and National Chengchi University (Taipei). Eligibility: Scholarships are available to CIEE Study Center applicants for the programs in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Taipei. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: (1) US citizen or U.S. permanent resident. Proof of status is required as part of the application for this scholarship (copy of a U.S. passport, birth certificate, or green card). (2) Junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in an institution of higher learning, planning to pursue advanced study or a career related to China in the areas of academia or public affairs. (3) Completion of 2 years, or the equivalent, of college-level Mandarin Chinese language training by the beginning of the program (clearly indicated on an official college transcript). (4) Demonstrate high merit. (5) Demonstrate financial need. Application: Application instructions, deadlines, and forms are available on the CIEE website http://ciee.org. Note that applications for Spring 2007 programs must be received no later than November 1, 2006. Awards: Awards vary in amount and are applied directly to the applicant's CIEE program fee. Past scholarship awards have ranged from $1000 - $8,000 for one term. Questions?
