David Bellovin ‘00 is nearing
the end of his doctoral studies and will be “defending in April.” He “will
be receiving my degree from the Department of Pathology in the Division of
Medical Sciences
at Harvard Medical School.” David was a UBRPer in Dr. David
Galbraith’s
lab, Plant Sciences. David is “looking for a post-doctorate
research position on the west coast.” E-mail: david_bellovin@student.hms.harvard.edu
After graduation UBRP alum, Sarah Knuth ‘04 “joined the Jesuit
Volunteer Corps, a volunteer organization that focuses on four core values:
simplicity, spirituality, social justice and community. I was placed in St
Labre Indian School to serve as a dormitory attendant for a year in southeastern
Montana. I lived in a community with other volunteers and served high school
students of the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservations. I enjoyed
the program so much I decided to do it a second year. So, I am now living
in Portland, Oregon, working at a day center for homeless folks. The organization
I work for, JOIN, works to move folks from the streets into permanent housing
and as part of that offers basic services to folks currently on the streets.
It has been so rewarding and so eye opening to be exposed to so many different
cultures and lifestyles in the past year and a half.” If any students
are “thinking about post-graduate volunteer opportunities and have
questions or concerns,” Sarah would be happy to talk to you. Sarah
was an UBRPer in Dr. Johnny Fares’ lab, Molecular & Cellular
Biology.
