Introducing...

…faculty sponsor, Dr. Michael Worobey, Assistant Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Dr. Worobey’s laboratory uses an evolutionary approach to understand the origins, emergence and control of pathogens, in particular RNA viruses and retroviruses such as HIV and influenza virus. He integrates fieldwork; theory and methodology; molecular biology; and (especially) molecular evolutionary analysis of gene sequences in a phylogenetic framework.

…to Mikhal Gold, whose work has been accepted for presentation at the Undergraduate Research Posters on the Hill event to be held in Washington, DC on April 19, 2005. Ms. Gold, who works with Dr. Emmanuel Akporiaye, is one of 75 students nationwide whose work has been accepted for presentation. The poster session provides an opportunity for students to speak with members of Congress, Congressional staffers, and representatives from federal agencies about their experimental results as well as about the importance of undergraduate research. Posters on the Hill is sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research, a professional society whose mission is to promote the participation of undergraduates in research and to provide faculty with increased opportunities to remain active in research while they use their new knowledge to develop investigative teaching strategies.
