Opportunities and Choices

UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Dallas, Texas is sponsoring the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program in molecular and cellular biology from June 6 through August 12, 2005. The program is designed to introduce students to careers in research. Fellows will spend full time on individual research projects in the laboratories of UT Southwestern Graduate School faculty members, and will present seminars on their research at the end of the training period. Participants will be selected based on their letters of reference, course work, and experience. Downloadable applications are available on the UT website at http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/SURF. Brown University, Laboratories of Molecular Medicine has two positions for a structural biologist (NMR and X-ray) and biochemist/molecular biologist with interest in protein structure determination and protein:protein interactions studies. The lab is currently using high resolution X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy for three projects: neuronal scaffolding proteins, phosphatase signaling in T-cells and technical advances for protein production and X-ray crystallography. The University of California, San Francisco is accepting applications for the 2005 Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) for undergraduate students (June 4 - August 8). The SRTP provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to conduct research in the biological, biomedical and behavioral sciences. Through this comprehensive 9-week summer experience, the SRTP strives to prepare students for graduate study (PhD) and a research career in the health sciences. Mayo Graduate School, Rochester, Minnesota announces its Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program for college students who are currently sophomores and juniors and are seriously considering research careers. The Natural Resources Conservation Service is currently seeking candidates for the Career Intern Program for the following positions: soil conservationists, rangeland management specialist and soil scientist. Interns participate in a 2-year formal training program and may be converted to a permanent position after successfully completing the program.
