ARCS Scholarship Applications
for 2004-05


The ARCS Foundation , Inc., Phoenix Chapter, will soon be announcing its annual competition to select outstanding graduate science and engineering students to receive the Achievement Rewards for College Scientist Scholarship. Thirteen UA graduate students are currently funded by ARCS scholaraships.

The total value of the one-year scholarship package is $14,258. Scholarships may be renewed
annually, but scholarship awardees must reapply every year. Deadline: November 29, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.

Eligibility:
-U.S. citizens
-admitted to UA Ph.D. program in the following fields: Aerospace &-Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Biochemistry,
Biology, Biomedicine, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology and Anatomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering,
Entomology, Hydrology, Genetics, Geological Science, Lunar and Planetary Science, Mathematics, Medicine, Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular
Biology, Optical Science, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physics, Soil, Water& Environmental Science.
-a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
-full-time enrollment (9 graduate units)
-intention to pursue a career in the same field of study

To Obtain an Application: Official application forms will be available beginning November 1, 2004. All applicants MUST use the official 2005-06 application form. NO OTHER FORM WILL BE ACCEPTED. Interested applicants should contact Dorian Voorhees voorhees@grad.arizona.edu for the official form after November 1, 2004.

Project Sunshine

(www.projectsunshine.org) is a national not-for-profit organization, which provides free programs and services to hospitalized children and their families. Here at the University of Arizona, we focus on organizing crafts and activities for inpatients and their families in the Pediatrics Department at the UMC. The UA chapter hosts several parties throughout the year for various holidays.

Medical University of South Carolina

(MUSC), Charleston, South Carolina (http://www.musc.edu) offers the MS, PhD, MD/PhD, (NIH funded) and DMD/PHD programs in biomedical sciences as well as a Summer Undergraduate Research Program. The UBRP office has brochures on the Summer Undergraduate Research Program and College of Graduate Studies CD’s.
