Opportunities and Choices

The University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Dallas, Texas is looking for applicants for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). Fellows will work full time in UT faculty laboratories and will conduct research on their individual research projects. The research interests of the faculty at UT are very diverse including areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, genetics, and biophysics. SURF runs from June 7 through August 13, 2004. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a natural science degree program at the undergraduate level and have completed their sophomore year. Participants will be selected based on their letters of reference, course work, and experience. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, DC is looking for applicants for their Research Training Program (RTP). Participants will engage in studies on the formation and evolution of the Earth and similar planets; discovery and understanding of life’s diversity; and the study of human diversity and cultural change. Applications should include a one-page cover letter, transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a completed on-line RTP application. Students accepted to this ten-week summer internship will receive a stipend, housing, a transportation allowance, and a research support budget.
