for a variety of research experience programs, grants,
scholarships, conferences, jobs, and graduate programs.
What follows is a sampling:
The Council on Undergraduate Research
(CUR) announces it is accepting applications for the
2004 Summer Fellowships.
Faculty apply electronically, on behalf of themselves
and a student who may or may not be named in the proposal.
Deadline for application: November 21, 2003. Awards
will be $3000 to $4000 for the 8 - 10 week summer research
fellowship with a minimum of $3000 designated for the
student stipend. The balance of the award, if available
from the donor, may be used for supplies and/or travel.

The Council on Undergraduate Research
(CUR) is accepting applications for the 2004
Posters on the Hill program. Students
apply electronically. Deadline for submission: November
21, 2003. CUR is calling for students to submit an abstract
of their research that represents any of CUR's seven
disciplinary divisions (Biology, Chemistry, Geology,
Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics/Astronomy, Psychology,
and Social Sciences). Each abstract should explain the
work that was performed and discuss the importance of
the work to science and society (i.e., what larger problem
were you trying to solve or understand?). On Tuesday,
April 20, 2004 (tentative date --- alternative date
April 27th), CUR will host its 8th annual undergraduate
poster session on Capitol Hill. This event will help
members of Congress understand the importance of undergraduate
research by talking directly with the students whom
these programs impact. Criteria for selection and directions
for submitting an abstract can be found on the website,

Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) will be offering fellowsips in environmentally
related fields of study. Students conducting
environmental research in the physical, biological,
and social sciences and engineering are eligible to
apply. Requests for Applications open August 2003 and

Annie’s Environmental Studies Scholarship.
The scholarship is open to full-time students beginning
or returning to an accredited 2- or 4-year technical
or college program in the US. Students must focus on
classes in the environmental studies field and have
at least one more year before completing their degree.
Each award is $1000. Deadline: June 1, 2004 Check website
