Opportunities and Choices

The UBRP office has received information and application materials for a variety of research experience programs, grants, scholarships, conferences, jobs, and graduate programs. What follows is a sampling:

The Environmental Protection Agency will be offering fellowships in environmentally related fields of study. Students conducting environmental research in the physical, biological, and social sciences and engineering are eligible to apply. Requests for Applications open August 2003 and close November 20, 2003. For more information go to http://es.epa.gov/ncer/.

The National Science Foundation will award approximately 900 new Graduate Research Fellowships for graduate study leading to research-based master’s and doctoral degrees. Applicants must be American citizens or permanent residents of the US. Each three-year fellowship includes as stipend of $27,000 for 12-month tenures, and a cost of education allowance of $10,500/year. Deadlines are in early November. Teach for America will host the Teach for America Student Leader Luncheon on October 14, 2003 to inspire students to join the movement to eliminate education inequity. Teach for America is the national corps of outstanding recent college gradates of all backgrounds and academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and who become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for children.
