Alumni News

News from Bridget Watts, alum from Dr. Schwalbe's lab, Renewable Natural Resources, and Dr. Hastings' lab, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. "I am in my second semester of the MS program at Moss Landing Marine Labs, and working two jobs. I am spending a good portion of my free time helping other grad students with their research -- such as searching for orcas to radio tag, doing call playbacks to harbor seals to get aggressive reactions (they are territorial), diving to look for sand dollar beds, and doing photo-id of humpback whales. I will be working on developing a thesis project over the summer, as well as continuing to help fellow graduate students. Tomorrow morning (6:00 am), we are heading to Marin County (about 3 hours north) to flense (de-flesh) a dead gray whale. Why, you ask? We want the skeleton to display in front of our brand new lab building! It should be hard and stinky (but fun) work. Email: piarsqr@yahoo.com

Prita Gupta Patel, "will graduate from UA College of Medicine in May. I will be starting my residency in Chicago at Lutheran General in Internal Medicine in July." Priti is "excited to start residency, but a little nervous about living in the snow!" If you didn't already guess by the name change, she got married at the end of her third year of medical school. Priti is an alum from Dr. Earnest's lab, Gastroenterology. Email: pritiandchetan@yahoo.com
